Tours & Activities

If you are not yet on Mfangano Island but stay in or around Mbita, our two day tour will be the best choice.

The reason is that the last ferry from Mfangano Island back to the mainland in Mbita leaves daily already at 2pm, leaving too little time to explore the island in one day. Therefore we recommend one night on the Island.

Program
After pickup from your acommodation in or around Mbita by one of our guides you will take the first ferry to Mfangano Island at 9am in the morning to make the most out of your day.

After the one hour boat drive which you can enjoy outside in the back of the ferry to enjoy a nice breeze on Lake Victoria you will arrive at Mfangano Island where the following highlights are waiting for you: 

• Visit of local market & Maandazi Tasting

• Visit of famous Rock Art & Cave (including 1,5 hours hike) 

• Visit of Primary School 

• Visit of Abasuba Community Peace Museum

• Lunch at local families home (Alternative: Lunch at Siambi Resort) 

• Visit of local Artist to experience traditional Craftmanship

• Visit of fisherman & traditional wooden boat builders

• Visit of organic local fruit garden for Bananas, Papayas, Mangos & Avocados

• 30-Minutes boat drive on Lake Victoria

The various activities will be timed throughout the two days based on your preferences, weather and availability.

Throughout the whole two days you will also be able to enjoy the amazing panorama views around the island. 

​

In the evening of the first day you will either get dinner and stay with a family from the local community for the night or sleep and get dinner at one of the resorts for an extra charge (e. g. Siambi Resort). 

​

On the second day the program will continue until the last ferry of the day at 2pm will bring you back to Mbita ferry Point from where you will be brought back to your acommodation.

​If you prefer to stay in a resort we can also arrange that. The extra charge for staying at Siambi resort is 5000 KSH for kenian citizens and 50 USD for International guests.

* Please note that there are no cars on the Island - therefore motorbike is the only way to explore Mfangano - we are of course only operating with experienced drivers & guides. 

Beer Boat Tour

Sit back, relax and join us for a Beer Boat Tour around the island! 

Program
After pickup from your acommodation by one of our guides you will directly hop on one of our boats where the captain and some refreshing drinks are already waiting for you! 

Our captain will take you around Mfangano island and/or sister islands allowing you to enjoy all highlights including:

• Tour on a traditional wooden boat (To be fair, we added an engine to make it more convenient for us and you ;) )

• Unlimited drinks & snacks (Softdrinks, Beer, Wine, Chips and more)

• Relaxing athmosphere and interesting facts and stories from the captain about Mfangano and the people living there

• Magnificient views of Mfangano Island, mountains and Lake Victoria

• On request also a visit of sister Islands is possible
